Our Heritage

A small gallery
with long roots.

Purely Persian Rug is a family-run gallery on Camberwell Road, Hawthorn East. We've been selling hand-knotted Persian and Oriental rugs from the same corner for over thirty years.

Hands at a traditional Persian loom

A timeline

Thirty years on the same corner.

  1. 1992

    The shutters first open

A modest shopfront on Camberwell Road becomes home to a small, carefully chosen selection of Persian rugs.

  2. 2003

    Direct from the loom

Annual sourcing trips begin, building relationships with weaving families in Tabriz, Kashan and Isfahan.

  3. 2015

    A second generation

The next generation joins the gallery, bringing a quieter, more editorial eye to the floor.

  4. Today

    Still here, still hand-knotted

Three decades on, same corner, same standard — every rug knotted by hand, chosen by us.

01

Sourced in person

We travel to the weaving regions ourselves, choosing pieces direct from the looms and dealers we've trusted for decades.

02

Hand-knotted, always

Every rug on the floor is genuinely hand-knotted from natural wool, silk or a blend — never machine-made, never tufted.

03

Honest provenance

We'll tell you exactly where a rug came from, who likely wove it, and what to expect from it over the next fifty years.

"A good rug is the quietest piece of furniture in the room — and the loudest memory."
